Author: Troy

So far I've reached acceptable proficiency at the following, in chronological order: Silversmith, infantryman/door gunner, helicopter pilot, fireman, carpenter, residential contractor, FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist and crotchety old retired guy. Currently, I'm learning to fly again and that is what this is all about. 7/7/2020 edit: As I have had the opportunity to reflect (old people do that a lot) on my actual proficiency level at the above occupations, I feel adjustments are in order. The term "acceptable" depends on the observer, their own proficiency and experience level. Acceptable to me might be woefully deficient to the master. I think it would be more accurate to claim that I have earned a living wage at all of these occupations but never got rich. Actually, I feel that I have gotten rich at the last one. I have what I need and am profoundly grateful for all of it. The future looks bright indeed, as I have learned to fly again. For that I have all of you to thank. Thank You!

By Troy Posted on August 4, 2016 Posted in Uncategorized

My liberal friends are scared to death of Donald Trump and what his presidency would mean. I say to them, “Don’t worry, DT will energize the democrats and get them to the polls in record numbers; ensuring his defeat in …

Time to Breathe

By Troy Posted on July 28, 2016 Posted in Uncategorized

Red run was really weird this year. The usual battles continue with all stakeholders convinced the others are stealing all the fish. The sonar counts are not trusted by most of the interested parties but even if they are off …

Tony got a nice king. The reds have started ( just under 50,000 a day for the last four days ) so I must get on with it. Catch, clean, smoke and pack; repeat. Weather is too perfect. Must be …

No, no submarines in this post. It is the second week of July in Soldotna and the hunt for Sockeyes has begun. Tony and I took the boat to the “secret bank” the other day and got five.  The small …

In Homer

By Troy Posted on June 25, 2016 Posted in Uncategorized

Got to the end of the road and beyond yesterday. No new photos but will use some stock shots of Homer. I seem to take the same pictures every time I visit anyway. The old homestead in Soldotna. Looks like …

Day one of this years trek north saw me breeze through Canadian customs between Sumas, WA and Abbotsford, BC and make Cache Creek, BC the first night. Weather was, as expected, perfect and wild sunflowers were in their prime. Day …

Then it is on my way. Spent a lot of the day bussing around the city. This is one half of the fountain and pool entrance to the visitors info center in Pioneer Square. Pioneer Square was having a flower …
